'Black Passenger Yellow Cabs: A Memoir of Exile and Excess in Japan,' is a controversial, erotic, ethnographic memoir which, since its release, has been enjoying a steady increase in popularity...

Gypsy Hearts - Robert M. Eversz Saucy, racy and enjoyable to read, the book hits a raw nerve in some publishers, as the author discovered when Malaika Adero, vice president and senior editor of Atria Books (an imprint of Simon and Schuster) approached him to republish the work. However, her superior the president of Simon and Schuster nixed it. Ms. Adero explained that while she was eager to republish this "well written, resonant book" Judi Curr was opposed. She continued by saying that Judi usually publishes 75% of the books to which she introduces her, but 'Black Passenger' was a book of which she was afraid of.

And why would that be? Could it be that Interracial relationships, promiscuity and patriarchy in Japan is taboo to discuss, much less revel in? In his candid and moving memoir, Black Passenger, Yellow Cabs: A Memoir of Exile and Excess in Japan, Stefhen Bryan conveys an incredible journey from a childhood of third-world poverty to an adulthood of sexual addiction in the Land of the Rising Sun.

A self acknowledged sex addict with a predilection for East and Southeast Asian women, he moved to Japan in April 2001 for the sole purpose of indulging his obsession. His riveting narrative is earning high praise for melding lyrical eroticism with insightful explorations into the societal and cultural mores of contemporary Japan, among the many topics Bryan discusses with candor and humor.

But its not all just subjective experiences. Bryan includes detailed historical and statistical analysis, in addition to what one reviewer calls "sex research that would make Kinsey proud." He has also begun the process of shooting a pilot for the VOOK edition of the book to go alone with his one man show based on 'Black Passenger. The show is expected to open in Los Angeles in October of 2011, bringing him live before the thousands of fans he picked up following his first ever interview on the Howard Stern show.

But more than an account of ribald exploits, "Black Passenger, Yellow Cabs," delves into the psychological origins of Bryan's addiction, his struggles with depression and suicidal ideations and his ultimate triumph over a compulsion that controlled his life for almost four decades. Great reading with a human touch in an exotic setting.
